Marine protection film is a clear urethane layer applied over your gelcoat. Not a coating, not a polish, not a treatment — a physical barrier thick enough to take damage that would otherwise reach your hull.
Dock rash. Fender wear. Abrasion from lines and pilings. Chips off debris. All of it hits the film instead of your finish. Light scratching self-heals. UV is blocked, so the gelcoat underneath stops oxidizing.
It comes in clear and in a range of colors. Clear goes over your existing finish without changing how the boat looks. Colored film is a finish change that also protects, which is a different decision — I'll walk you through the options at the inspection.
Where it goes on a boat
I don't film whole boats. I film the surfaces that actually take abuse, which on most vessels is a fraction of the hull.
Hullsides and transom
The rub line, the transom, covering boards, cockpit coamings. Everything a piling or a fender finds.

MFDs and displays, protected against scratching, etching, and glare.

Most owners come to me having already tried something else, or asking about it.
Wax and sealants are cosmetic and last weeks to months. Nothing structural.
Ceramic coating is chemical — it makes cleaning easier and slows oxidation, but it does not stop physical contact. Once it's scratched, the scratch stays. I compare the two directly on my ceramic coating page.
Detailing restores a finish that's already damaged, and it removes a small amount of gelcoat every time it's done. Film stops you needing it as often.
Vinyl changes how a boat looks. It covers your finish rather than protecting it. Different product, different purpose.
How I work
I'm a certified Yacht Armor installer and I handle every install personally. There's no crew, no subcontractor, no job I haven't touched.
Everything happens dockside.
Your boat stays in the slip or at its storage facility. No haul-out, no yard time, no transport.
Every quote follows an in-person look at the hull.
Custom boats have no shortcut, and there's no honest way to price one from a photo. I come out, measure, look at the condition of the finish, and give you a number then.
I tell you when film isn't the answer.
If your gelcoat needs correction first, or if a coating genuinely suits your boat better, I'll say so. I'd rather lose the job than sell you the wrong thing.

Yacht Armor manufactures the film. These are their published figures, not mine:
- Service life of 5 to 7 years with proper maintenance and care
- A three-year guarantee on the film from the date of installation
- Lab tested in wet and extreme UV conditions
- Available in different thicknesses for different locations on a vessel
Separately, I guarantee my own workmanship for as long as you own the boat — lifts, peels, and seam separation caused by installation. Two different things, and I'll walk you through both when I look at the vessel.

How long does marine protection film last?
Yacht Armor publishes a service life of 5 to 7 years with proper care, and guarantees the film for three years from installation. Where your boat lands in that range depends heavily on where it lives and how much sun it takes.
Will it change how my boat looks?
That's your choice. Clear film goes over your existing finish and from a few feet away you won't know it's there. Colored film changes the look and protects at the same time. I bring samples to every inspection so you can see both against your own gelcoat before deciding.
Can it go over existing chips and scratches?
Usually yes. A small air pocket may be visible around a chip, and the film will stop further damage in that area. I'll tell you what to expect when I look at the boat.
What maintenance does it need?
Basic washing and drying. Yacht Armor recommends a pH-neutral soap so the film's nano coating isn't affected, and a periodic SiO2 application to keep it hydrophobic.
How is it removed?
With heat, at the end of the film's life. It leaves minimal adhesive behind and the surface underneath comes out fresh.
Do I have to haul the boat out?
No. I work dockside at your slip or storage facility. Your boat doesn't leave the water.
What does it cost?
