2014 Pursuit — Clear Hull Protection

A dark navy hull is the hardest finish to keep perfect. We sealed this one under Yacht Armor Shield clear marine protection film at Borden Light Marina in Fall River, MA.

    The Project

Dark hulls look incredible for about a season. After that, every dock rub, fender scuff, and swirl shows up in direct sun, and navy gelcoat chalks and fades faster than white. This owner wanted to keep the deep blue finish and red boot stripe on his 2014 Pursuit looking the way they do now, so he called Coastal Yacht Protection.

We chose Yacht Armor Shield clear film. It's optically clear, so the original color, the pinstripes, and the Pursuit badging all show through exactly as the factory intended. The film takes the abuse that would otherwise hit the gelcoat: scuffs from fenders and pilings, abrasion from lines, and the UV exposure that slowly dulls a dark hull.

The Pursuit's hull isn't a simple shape. The long sculpted window strakes, the flared bow, and the many fittings along the topsides all require precise trimming and wrapped edges so the film reads as invisible from the dock. We worked on site at Borden Light Marina with the boat on stands in the yard, in the shadow of the Braga Bridge, so the owner never had to transport it anywhere.

The result is the same boat, with a finish that will hold its gloss and depth for years instead of one season.

Why Clear Marine Protection Film for Dark Hulls

    Optically Clear

Yacht Armor Shield is completely transparent. Factory gelcoat color, boot stripes, and custom badging show through with enhanced gloss and no distortion.

    Stops Dark Hull Fade

Navy gelcoat absorbs more heat and UV radiation than white, accelerating oxidation. Clear film creates a physical barrier that blocks UV before it reaches resin.

    Self-Healing Protection

Dock rash, fender scuffs, and washdown swirls hit the sacrificial film instead of your topsides, self-healing in warm sunlight to preserve pristine gelcoat.

    Scope of Work

Full Hull Clear Marine Protection Film

Precision installation of Yacht Armor Shield optically clear film over the deep navy gelcoat, from rub rail to chine.

    Boot Stripe & Accent Preservation

    Sculpted Window Strake Trimming

Custom hand trimming and post-heated wrapped edges around the Pursuit's long sculpted hull window recesses.

    Surface Preparation

Complete hull decontamination, light finish polish to eliminate pre-existing haze, and an IPA wipe-down before film bonding.

    Post-Heat & Edge Sealing

Every perimeter edge, corner, and thru-hull relief post-heated and sealed to withstand harsh saltwater and wave impact.
